Sans Censure

In partnership with Monotype and Penguin Random House, Sans Censure exploits a design loophole to bypass book bans in U.S. schools. While literary works are targeted, type specimens (technical catalogs for designers) remain unregulated. We transformed four banned stories into custom typefaces, replacing traditional sample text with the complete, unabridged books. These specimens return stories to the very libraries and schools that removed them, disguised as design tools. Available for free on Monotype’s platform, Sans Censure ensures that while access to books may be erased, the stories continue to circulate as typography.
